Step 2: Use Navratri as the starting window

A simple home ritual
- Cleanse the stone with incense smoke or a selenite plate — skip water for porous or soft stones (see how to cleanse and energise crystals).
- Place it before the goddess (or on the altar) on your chosen day, with a diya.
- Chant the planet's beej mantra 108 times — for example, Jupiter: Om Graam Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namah.

Step 3 (optional): a crystal for each of the nine days
If you prefer a crystal on the altar rather than a ring, a widely followed pairing is:
Add a clear quartz (sphatik) at the centre for all nine days, the classic altar stone.
What to avoid
- Buying a gemstone only because of the date — the Lagna rule matters more than the festival.
- Cheap "energised" stones with no bead or treatment disclosure. Run the real vs fake tester first.
- Wearing a stone you were told to avoid for your Lagna, just because a seller promised luck.
- Starting a fast or ritual that conflicts with your health. Pregnancy, diabetes or other conditions: ask your doctor.

Do I need an astrologer before wearing a ratna?+
For precious navaratnas, yes, it is strongly advised, especially blue sapphire (Neelam), hessonite (Gomed) and cat's eye. Gentler everyday crystals and upratnas are lower risk, but the Lagna rule still applies.
