Navratri 2028: Colours & a Crystal for Each Day

Sharad Navratri 2028 day by day — the verified colour, the goddess, her ruling planet in one popular tradition, and the crystal to place on your altar.

By The Indian Vedic Crystal editorial teamUpdated 11 October 20266 min read

Sharad Navratri 2028 begins on Tue, 19 Sept 2028 with Ghatasthapana on Ashwin Shukla Pratipada (see the Ghatasthapana 2028 muhurat). Durga Ashtami falls on Tue, 26 Sept 2028, the Navami tithi runs from Tue 26 Sept, 6:59 am to Wed 27 Sept, 8:10 am, and Vijayadashami (Dussehra) is on Wed, 27 Sept 2028. Each of the nine days honours one form of Navdurga — and in a widely followed astrological tradition, each goddess governs one of the nine planets, which gives a simple way to choose a crystal for each day.

Tithi computed for 6:15 am IST (Lahiri). Local Panchang timings can shift a puja by a day.

Ashtami, Navami & Dussehra 2028: exact tithi windows

Computed from the Moon–Sun elongation (exact tithi boundaries), IST. Sunrise and temple timings differ by city.
TithiBegins (IST)Ends (IST)Observed on
Durga AshtamiMon 25 Sept, 6:33 amTue 26 Sept, 6:59 amTue, 26 Sept 2028
Maha NavamiTue 26 Sept, 6:59 amWed 27 Sept, 8:10 amTue, 26 Sept 2028 – Wed, 27 Sept 2028
Dashami (Dussehra)Wed 27 Sept, 8:10 amThu 28 Sept, 9:56 amWed, 27 Sept 2028

Sandhi Puja 2028 — the 48-minute junction of Ashtami and Navami — falls around 6:35 am to 7:23 am IST on Tue, 26 Sept 2028 (the last 24 minutes of Ashtami and first 24 of Navami). Bengal and Durga Puja pandals time the main Ashtami puja and Sandhi Puja to this moment.

Durga Ashtami 2028: why two dates are in circulation
The Ashtami tithi starts Mon 25 Sept, 6:33 am and ends Tue 26 Sept, 6:59 am. If a calendar uses the sunrise-tithi rule, Ashtami is on Tue, 26 Sept 2028 (it is the tithi at sunrise). If it uses the midday (madhyahna) rule, Ashtami is on Mon, 25 Sept 2028 (the day it covers noon). Both are legitimate Panchang conventions — that is the whole reason sources disagree. Durga Puja committees fix Sandhi Puja from the Ashtami–Navami junction shown above. For a Kanya Puja or Ashtami havan booking, confirm with Drik Panchang or your temple for your city.
Why Dussehra 2028 is Wed, 27 Sept 2028
Vijayadashami is observed on the day the Dashami tithi covers Aparahna (roughly 1–3:30 pm). Here Dashami begins Wed 27 Sept, 8:10 am, so it covers the afternoon of Wed, 27 Sept 2028. Counting Dashami at sunrise alone would wrongly give the next day.

A simple Navratri crystal altar

  • Set the altar in the North-East (Ishan kon) — see puja room Vastu.
  • Keep a clear quartz (sphatik) at the centre for all nine days and add the day's crystal each morning.
  • Cleanse the stones on Sarva Pitru Amavasya (the day before Navratri) and again after Vijayadashami.
  • Ashtami, Navami and Vijayadashami are popular days to energise a new gemstone — ideally the stone of your Lagna lord.

Which stone should I use on each day of Navratri?+

Festival days follow the tithi at sunrise, and tithis don't align neatly with calendar days — some repeat and some are skipped. That's why Navratri can span 8, 9 or 10 calendar days.

Can I buy crystals during Navratri?+

Yes. Navratri is considered one of the most auspicious times for new beginnings, and many people buy and energise gemstones on Ashtami or Vijayadashami.
