Real vs Fake Crystal Tester
Pick your stone and walk through safe home tests — temperature, look, weight, streak and seller checks. We'll give you an authenticity score and what to do next.
Testing a "Money Magnet" bracelet?
These are usually strung from , hematite, tiger's eye or citrine beads — sometimes mixed on one bracelet. Test each bead type on its own: real pyrite is heavy with a metallic streak, real hematite is naturally magnetic and very dense, and genuine tiger's eye shows a soft moving band of light (chatoyance), not a flat painted shine. Pick the matching stone above to run its test.
How the Real vs Fake Crystal Tester works
Stone-specific tests
Every crystal is faked differently: glass for moldavite and 'citrine', dyed howlite for turquoise, resin for amber-coloured stones. Each test here is tailored to the stone you choose.
Weighted score
Stone-specific tests carry more weight than generic checks. 'Can't tell' answers are ignored, so you never get a false result for a test you couldn't do.
The honest limit
Home tests raise or lower suspicion — they can't prove authenticity. For precious gems like ruby, emerald or sapphire, always ask for a lab report (GII, IGI or GIA).
Frequently asked questions
How can I tell if my crystal is real at home?+
Start with temperature (real stones feel cool and warm slowly), look for natural inclusions under a magnifier, check for suspicious bubbles or perfectly uniform colour, and compare price and weight. Our tester gives stone-specific steps.
Crystal asli hai ya nakli kaise pata kare?+
Ek test kaafi nahi hota. Pehle bead ko roshni mein dekhein (andar bubbles ya ekdum same rang = shak), phir weight, streak ya magnet jaise safe test karein, aur seller se bead list, treatment (dye/heat) aur return policy poochein. Mahange ratna ke liye lab report (GII/IGI/GIA) hi pakka saboot hai. Neeche stone chunkar step-by-step test karein.
Dhanteras par nakli crystal se kaise bachein?+
Festival ki bheed mein sabse zyada nakli pyrite aur dyed 'citrine' bikta hai. Bahut sasta daam, 'original' likha par bead list nahi, aur dhan ki guarantee ka daawa — ye teeno lal jhande hain. Kharidne se pehle yahan stone ka test karein aur return policy dekhein.
How do I check if pyrite is real?+
Real pyrite is heavy, brassy-gold, and leaves a greenish-black streak on unglazed ceramic. Fake pyrite is often painted metal or plastic that feels light and leaves no dark streak.
How do I check if a 'money magnet' bracelet is original?+
Most money-magnet bracelets are made of pyrite, hematite, tiger's eye or citrine beads (sometimes mixed). Test each bead type separately: real pyrite is heavy with a metallic brassy streak; real hematite is very heavy and leaves a red-brown to grey streak and is naturally magnetic; genuine tiger's eye shows a soft, silky 'chatoyant' band of light that moves as you tilt it, not a flat painted sheen. A bracelet where every bead is suspiciously light, uniformly shiny plastic, or strongly magnetic gold-coloured metal is almost certainly not the stones it claims to be.
Is most moldavite sold online fake?+
A large share of cheap moldavite online is green glass. Real moldavite has a deeply textured, etched surface, internal swirls and elongated bubbles, and is priced by the gram. Buy from sellers who disclose origin.
Does the salt water test work for crystals?+
Not reliably — and it can damage many stones like selenite, pyrite, turquoise and pearl. We only recommend safe, non-destructive tests.
