Kalash Sthapana: simple traditional steps
- Clean the altar space and keep it in the North-East if possible (see puja room Vastu).
- Sow barley (jau) in a shallow earthen tray with clean soil and sprinkle water.
- Fill the kalash with water (Gangajal if available), add mango leaves, a coin and a coconut wrapped in red cloth on top.
- Invoke Goddess Durga with her mantra and light the diya (akhand jyoti if your family keeps one).
- Place a clear quartz (sphatik) at the centre of the altar — popular, optional and purely traditional.
